Asking prices bounce back in first quarter
The asking price for the average home rose more than £3,000 in the first three months of 2012, according to FindaProperty.com.
The property website’s latest house price, affordability and rental index shows a 1.8 per cent increase in asking prices since the start of the year, bringing the UK average to £221,387. More than half of that increase (one per cent) came in March alone. Read more on this story
Mortgage lending at six-month high
A rush to beat the deadline on the stamp duty concession drove mortgage lending to a six-month high in March, the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML) said today.
Gross mortgage lending was around £13.4 billion, the CML said, representing a 30% rise from £10.3 billion in February and a 17% increase from March last year. Read more on this story
